Google Earth, an Eye on Katrina
[NoSheep!] On CNN this morning they ran a segment about Google’s satellite imagery available through Google Earth. I’ve been excited about Google Maps and Google Earth for awhile, so enjoyed watching them show shots of New Orleans before and after Katrina.

Geotagging and When: Why we need date and time as well as location
[Grasshoppermind] I had a few reasons for the feature request but I dont think I could put it as well as this”¦ ”¦What happens to all the stuff we leave anchored to physical places but floating in virtual space year after year?”¦ ”¦Think about all the tourists that come to take pictures of the Duomo, once they start tagging their pictures with that location, well end up with thousands of pictures tied to that place. Now imagine that ten years down the road, someone visits the Duomo, would that person be able to say, find the photos their father took at that location?”¦ Better still, broaden geotagging out past just pictures.

bsuite_geocode Plugin For WordPress
[MaisonBisson.com] I could have added these links using the old Geo plugin, but I still would have had to insert the coordinates separately. Actually, that brings up a good point: my code also inserts post metadata in the same format the Geo plugin uses, so I can take advantage of all the good functions it has, like the one that inserts the “<meta name=“ICBM” content=“44.006336, -71.547260” />” tag in the header of this post (caveat: I had to disable the add_action code in Geo that feeds the postmeta table, as it was conflicting my code).
