Amazon tag-soup and user wishlists

[High Earth Orbit] While doing a little Christmas and deal perusing, somehow in my “webpage-peripheral” vision I noticed a change to the Amazon layout. They are now sporting, of all things, tags. Supposedly the idea being you can tag items by people you are shopping for. Perhaps, ala del.icio.us you could tag tobuy or toshoparoundfor.

Free Database of World City Names

Digital Media Minute[Digital Media Minute] United Nations Code for Trade and Transport Locations maintains a huge list of city names for every country in the world with lots of other meta data like geographic coordinates, names without diacritics, subdivision (province, state, etc). You can simply view the data using their search options, or even better download the data in CSV or MS Access format!

Yahoo! Maps severe, and odd, restriction

[High Earth Orbit] Maps APIs, provided that such location data is not based on real-time (i.e., less than 6 hours) GPS or any other real-time location sensing device, the GPS or location sensing device that derives the location data cannot automatically (i.e. without human intervention) provide the end user’s location, and any such location data must be uploaded by an end-user (and not you) to the Yahoo!

Plazes, a 100 day review

[Vacuum - Edward Vielmetti in Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104] Fortunately, Plazes is pretty easy to opt out of on an instance by instance basis, and you have to have your laptop connected to be findable. I often want that to happen when I'm out and about somewhere away from home.

How Do You Find Google Earth Files?

Intergraph adding 3D visualization to GeoMedia

Brain Flood continues his look at Google Earth

Spatially Adjustedhttp://www.spatiallyadjusted.com [Spatially Adjusted] A very good viewer with excellent hooks for additional data streams but a viewer none the less.Brian has a nice look at moving from ArcMap to Google Earth as a GIS Viewer. My first reaction is that this is huge because there really isn't a good free viewer available to view GIS data from desperate sources.

Quick Tip: Use Google hack to find Google Earth KML files

http://cse-mjmcl.cse.bris.ac.uk/blog [Mark McLaren's Weblog] What I mean by that is that Google cannot currently make sense of the contents of a KMZ file because it is binary. Whereas since KML is a text format, Google will actually search the files contents.

ArcMap Feature Layer to KML

A simple Java KMZ Servlet Filter for use with the Google Earth client
