Geology Blogging

http://ron.outcrop.org/blog [Ron Schott’s Geology Home Companion Blog] I don’t personally have any detailed knowledge of the geology there (wrong side of the San Andreas in that region), but looking at the Santa Cruz 1:250,000 geologic map it appears to be constituted primarily of Pliocene marine rocks (probably not real strong stuff) at the northwest end and Pliocene and Pleistocene nonmarine rocks further south. These are all fairly young (geologically) and presumably are only weakly lithified - making them prime candidates for landsliding.

magnalox - magnificent GPS logs and interactive reports

Volker Kinkelin told me by email about their website, magnalox. It allows you to upload and annotate GPS logs, creating interactive "magnalogs" and converts them to .kml on demand. It's worth a look, so you might check it out.

Virtual Earths round 2

[Data Mining] Doing this reveals an interesting connection: GeoTango is a partner of DigitalGlobe, which is a major partner with Google in the GIS data space. Google is not listed on DigitalGlobe's partner list, but you will often see evidence of this in Google Earth.

Export to KML Updated to 2.1

Spatially Adjustedhttp://www.spatiallyadjusted.com [Spatially Adjusted] just wanted to let you know that there is a new version of ExporttoKML available that corrects the problem of displaying extruded polygons in the newest version of Google Earth. The were not displaying correctly due to a change in the KML rules.
