[AGU Meetings] Let's backtrack a little: The first geobloggers lunch ever at the Fall Meeting was a success! Held on Wednesday, the event attracted 21 researchers and journalists who blog on Earth and space sciences (including yours truly) and who .

[Clastic Detritus] Geological heroes: Marine geologist Bill Normark « Clastic Detritus: I invite all participants (geobloggers and geoblog readers alike) to contribute stories of their heroes. Its time to pay tribute to the extraordinary individuals who helped make your life, your science, and your planet better than they would otherwise have been.
[Through The Sandglass] The Geoblogosphere: a commentary: There are, literally, hundreds of geoblogs: while the dominant language is English, it is a truly international community, and, while the majority of the writers are academics (faculty and students), included are geologists of all professional stripes as well as freelancers and enthusiastic non-professionals. The theme, content, character, and style of these blogs are, unsurprisingly, diverse - some are more light-hearted than others, some are seriously scholarly, but almost all are informative and entertaining.

[NOVA Geoblog] NOVA Geoblog: Ye NE/SE GSA abstract deadline approacheth: Earth system science allows for a course of study where students learn about the connections and applications of science, technology, and society on our planet. Climate change, sustainability, and energy issues are certainly "hot topics" that require our students to have a strong background in understanding how the Earth works as a system.
[Through The Sandglass] The International Geoblogosphere - continued - Through The Sandglass: I would like to think that the Geoblogosphere could actively provoke discussion of the AGI document and the issues it raises. From my own local perspective, for example, I strongly believe that the Geological Society in London has a role in the public and policy-making perception of these issues. But the GeolSoc is a great and venerable institution that still suffers from a degree of conservatism and the difficulties of reaching consensus to stick its institutional head above the parapet (having written that, I'll find out if anyone else at the GeolSoc is reading this!)

[NOVA Geoblog] NOVA Geoblog: Life during "Anthropocene" time: As the authors of the GSA Today paper point out, we've wiped out the majority of the big terrestrial animals, and concomitant wave of extinctions has rippled through the marine realm. Since changes in fossil biota have been the benchmarks of change in the geologic timescale, it seems certain that our tenure will be marked clearly for future paleontologists to see.
