Geotags.org > Google Earth, an Eye on Katrina
[NoSheep!] On CNN this morning they ran a segment about Google’s satellite imagery available through Google Earth. I’ve been excited about Google Maps and Google Earth for awhile, so enjoyed watching them show shots of New Orleans before and after Katrina.
Some related posts from Technorati and Google.
[Ogle Earth] Quickly, now: Via All Points Blog, a link to Global Connection, the people responsible for putting National Geographic in Google Earth (check), Putting Hurricane Katrina in Google Earth (check), and "building and exploring gigapixel panoramic images" (wow).
[lifesized] Here comes Rita: Last year i was caught there by one of the 3 big hurricanes that did extensive damage to Florida. Google Earth, bulletin board has some KML files you can upload if you have an installed copy of the latest software, to track RITA.
[Google Maps Mania] Google Maps Mania - A Japan View: We know it's standard for Google and other webmap services in US, but not ready yet for Google Japan, even other Zenrin powered Japanese maps like goo Map provide the functionality. It's pretty common technology for long time for super-duper Japanese car navigation systems and other geographic related products, so the company with GIS technology goes experiments with Google Maps.
[Gearthblog.com] Google Earth Blog: Thinklemon.com has taken the Impact Database and created Google Earth network links (he gets extra points for this) which not only shows the location of the 172 impacts, but shows a size indicator for the larger ones and provides links to Wikipedia articles and other information in the descriptions. He has organized the list by major continents and also includes a list of the top 25.
[Kathryncramer.com] Kathryn Cramer: Not only do Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post all link to one of the bloggers who is one of the principle architects of this kind of attack, the Forbes site even contains a review of that blogger's site in which the reviewer remarks that the worst thing about the site is that "the 'now playing' feature doesn't stream music." (There is even some circumstantial evidence that that blogger was one of the sources used for the article.) Face it Dan: you guys get off on conservatives on a rampage, no matter who it hurts.
[Google.blognewschannel.com] » Google Earth And The Hurricane InsideGoogle » part of the Blog ...: Now, I haven’t seen any such implementation (and there really should be one), but my brother did tell me that he saw a lot of local news stations using Google Earth for their weather reports, with a prominent Google Earth logo in the corner of the screen. Google must be thrilled to be getting their logo on a number of newscasts.
[Ogleearth.com] Ogle Earth: Katrina Catch-up: Yes, two things: First, Google Earth and its imaging provider Digital Globe, are intent on providing a much accelerated response time for image updates when it comes to mapping significant natural (and man-made) disaster news stories. If this continues, this will turn Google Earth into a much more useful real-time tool than the reference work it amounts to currently.
