[Information Takes Over] Google search API’s June 7th, 2006 Google recently (1 June) announced their Google AJAX Search API which is really rather neat! One definate advantage is the ability to geocode UK postcodes. All you need to do is use the results from the GlocalSearch() object to get at the lat/lng. see the code behind this demo app. An immediate application that I can think of is for Talis’ Silkworm directory. where currently you have to zoom into the area that your library is located. If the directory could just use the postcode info you had already provided, then all you would need to do is specify the exact spot! [Talis.com] Project Silkworm | Talis Developer Network: As for getting the lat/long for your library, the Google Map snippet to the bottom of the screen in which you are adding your library's location details is intended to help here. Simply move around that map, zooming in and out as required, until you're happy that the cross is centred over your library.

[Digg.com] Google Maps street maps for ALL of Europe!: I've noticed that when you do a UK postcode lookup on google maps, the resulting link doesn't include the lat and long required for geocoding. However, if you zoom out by one step (and then back in again if you want to retain the original found view), the link gains lat and long values.
