Geotags.org > PhotoSynth: check the applet

[TomSoft]  PhotoSynth research project from Microsoft has been announced some time ago, but I’ve missed the fact that there is a live applet to play with. It’s worth a try:

http://geography2.blogspot.com  Geography 2.0: Virtual Globes: It is perplexing therefore that Egenhofer and Mark assert that “there is a need to incorporate naive geographic knowledge and reasoning into GISs,” when they acknowledge that such knowledge “may actually contain ”˜errors’” and “occasionally be inconsistent.” While they undoubtedly intend for such misconceptions eventually to be remedied, facilitating and acquiescing to erroneous conceptual models would serve only to confuse and perpetuate further misconceptions. Once created, reductive-influenced conceptual models are difficult to correct and overcome (Feltovich et al. (via Cosmos)

http://weblogs.macromedia.com/jd  JD on EP: Then earlier this month there were the Photosynth presentations at Microsoft Labs [aside: no code, just video, on a "labs"?], where 3D geometry could be built from an image stream by identifying common areas and automating a model, and with timestamps I bet you could do re-creations of how people moved through a scene, like JFK assasination, Qana choreography, Mohammed al Dura, other controversies. Last week John Nack pointed out new science for detecting changes within an image... (via Cosmos)

http://geeksaresexy.blogspot.com  [Geeks are Sexy] technology news: It just seems to me that everyone out there screams at Microsoft because they develop operating systems full of holes, and now that they've pushed forward with an OS that closes out all those holes, everyone in the business starts to complain. Sometimes, in tech, we get such a double-standard. (via Cosmos)

If, like me, you can’t get your head around the practical personal meaning of such sums, at least this video [requires Microsoft Media Player of course] might help you get your head round his latest brilliant creation. [Blog.landspurg.net] TomSoft: The phone makers can learn a lot from Microsoft: don’t be afraid to make radical interface changes. There’s a limit to small-steps evolution, at some point you have to make a revolution.

Automatic 3D reconstruction is still a topic of ongoing research, but impressive results have been coming out recently.
