Mileposts on the geo Web Plazes and Praized
[wushenyuan.net] Both Plazes and Praized are based on leveraging their own proprietary databases. Plazes is collecting the data of Wi-Fi access point locations (based on coordinating MAC addresses with user reports of location) as well as matching location coordinates with the places that users hang out at (for example, the Starbucks at SFO).

Plazes CEO Busted By His Own Product
[TechCrunch] Very clearly Plazes is an innovative site, which I am guessing is why Mr Petersen was invited to speak at Next Web in the first place, and possibly why he didn’t feel pressured to show up at all costs.

[TechCrunch] As good as Plazes was, the friction from requiring users to download software and use it whenever they changed location created friction and slowed user growth. Taking pointers from the simplicity of Twitter, Plazes is changing the way it handles location, and is also adding time and activity dimensions to the product.

[TechCrunch] The phone detects the user’s location through the iPhone API, then presents the user with a number of suggested descriptions (for example, opening Plazes from our office presented us with choices of “TechCrunch HQ” and “The Mansion”, both of which were assigned to the coordinates by previous visitors).
