[Comments for James Fee GIS Blog] James Fee GIS Blog » Blog Archive » ESRI's Web ADF is one horrific ...: There seems to be an eternal dalliance with open source in the GIS community (and in this blog - James makes constant references to open source projects - for which I’m thankful - which I might never have discovered on my own). Do the brave thing - instead of spending money to figure out how to use something you had to pay for, spend money to figure out how to use what’s free.

I typed in a Utah address in the current one and saw the nearest churches and all the various wards in each building plus the assigned wards (regular, student, spanish, etc.) for that address.
[Joel Dehlin] Joel Dehlin: LDS Church Tech Talks: ESRI (www.esri.com) certainly has the edge on GIS software, but there are many many off-the-shelf choices, in addition to opensource (see opensourcegis.org). I would be interested in the the Church’s vision for geographic tools, if they use any, or if they have simply created gis-like functionality into applications on an as-needed basis.
[GPS Review] DeLorme PN-40 GPS Review: I downloaded the TOPO 7 maps for my area, the USGS 7.5 minute 24K maps for trails I hike, and aerial photos of the same trails. Then I was blown away by seeing the result on my PN-40: For a series of trails in my area, I was impressed with the pretty good TOPO 7 maps, and then when I zoomed in the downloaded USGS 24K map layer appeared, and when I zoomed in again the color aerial image appeared ” WOW!
